Visit to a Physiotherapist

Physiotherapy, or treatment through movement, is a branch of therapy that includes physical exercises, manual therapy, and physiotherapeutic tools. The main goal of physiotherapy is to restore healthy movement and functionality.

When should you see a physiotherapist?

It depends on the type and location of your pain. For acute pain, it is best to consult a physiotherapist within the first week. If the pain is mild and just an ache, you should aim to seek help within four weeks.

When does physiotherapy provide the most benefit?

The most significant benefit is achieved when both the patient and the physiotherapist collaborate closely. Unfortunately, many people wait too long and only consult a physiotherapist when they are already experiencing chronic pain, which is more challenging and time-consuming to treat.

How long does physiotherapy treatment typically last?

Gydymo laikotarpis yra labai individualus. Jei pacientas atsakingai klauso kineziterapeuto nurodymų, gydymas trunka trumpiau. Taip pat gydymo trukmė labai priklauso nuo skausmo šaltinio, nervinės kilmės, be to, lėtinio skausmo gydymas užtrunka ilgiau. Nėra tikslaus kineziterapijos seansų skaičiaus dėl daugelio veiksnių, kurie gali padėti pasveikti greičiau arba atvirkščiai – pratęsti gydymo laikotarpį.

What happens during a physiotherapy session?

A session begins with a consultation to identify the cause of the pain. Next, the patient undergoes a series of assessments to observe active movements, pain-triggering and pain-relieving positions, and movements. Joints, muscles, nerves, and movement control are all tested. Once the source of pain is identified, a trial treatment is conducted, followed by reassessment. After this, the treatment plan is created and discussed with the patient.

How can physiotherapy benefit people with sedentary jobs?

People in sedentary jobs often suffer from neck and lower back pain. If left untreated, these issues can worsen, potentially leading to nerve root pain. A physiotherapist can provide guidance on maintaining proper posture at the workstation, changing sitting positions, and performing exercises during breaks to prevent or alleviate pain.

How can physiotherapy help those with physically demanding jobs?

A physiotherapist can offer practical advice, like proper lifting techniques. They can also demonstrate how to adjust body positions during work (e.g., if the job requires prolonged kneeling or bending).
