What is a tongue biopsy?
A tongue biopsy is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the tissues of the tongue when suspicious growths, lesions, or chronic inflammation are detected. This procedure helps to identify various diseases, including infections, inflammatory processes, or oncological lesions.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
During the procedure, under local anesthesia, the surgeon removes a small sample of tissue from the affected area of the tongue. This sample is sent for histological examination, which allows for an accurate diagnosis of possible diseases.
When is a tongue biopsy needed?
This procedure is recommended if the patient notices unclear lesions, ulcers, nodules, or persistent pain on the tongue for which the cause is unclear.
